Paul Kalanithi

Paul Kalanithi was a neurosurgeon and writer. Born in New York and raised in Arizona, he graduated from Stanford University, then earned an M.Phil in literature from Cambridge and an M.D. from Yale. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Stanford, during which he was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. His memoir 'When Breath Becomes Air' was published posthumously in 2016.
