When Gohan, Krillin, and Yajirobe manage to cut off Vegeta's tail, the prince reverts to his normal size, wounded and furious.

In a final act of desperation, Goku prepares the Spirit Bomb, gathering energy from all life on Earth. But Vegeta is too fast he nearly destroys Goku before Gohan hurls the spirit bomb back at him. The battle ends with Vegeta retreating, broken but alive, swearing revenge. Goku is left badly injured, and the surviving heroes mourn their losses.
